Personal Economics

Overview

The Personal Economics Programme provides a hands-on, practical introduction to personal finance, credit and debt, savings and investments, and budgeting. Delivered by a volunteer from the business community, in partnership with a teacher, the programme is enriched by role-model engagement and real-life experiences. This unique delivery method helps foster practical relationships between schools, colleges, businesses and the local community, whilst allowing young people to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of business and enterprise.

Personal Economics

The Personal Economics programme aims to encourage students to appreciate their current and future role in society and the economy as consumers, employees, employers, tax payers, investors and borrowers.

It helps raise students' aspirations of what they might achieve in the future, and encourage them to make plans for success. Creating their own "Life Map" students consider their personal aspirations and goals for the future. They are also introduced to the world of budgeting, banking, financial planning and employment.

The programme helps students to build a bridge between teenage and adult lives, to develop key skills and positive attitudes, to gain an understanding of the financial market place and choices in spending and saving. They also explore the recruitment and job interview process and develop their economic skills and understanding.

The Personal Economics programme is presented in five one-hour sessions. These sessions can be delivered over a series of weeks or as a full day event.

Session 1 - Get A Life
Session 2 - Get Earning
Session 3 - Get Spending
Session 4 - Get Saving
Session 5 - Get Going
